October Family Newsletter

Hello Green Tree Families!

As we shared at Family Night, our theme this year is Don't just reach for the stars...BE ONE!  The first month of school your students were superstars!  The students (and teachers) have been busy setting up expectations in their classrooms, building relationships, and learning!  It's been wonderful to see and celebrate.

Each student is learning and practicing Second Step skills daily.  As we finish up practicing our listening  skills this week, we continue into October with the following skills encouraged schoolwide:
  • Focusing Attention
  • Using Self-Talk
  • Being Assertive
  • Empathy
Students additionally practice more specific skills in the classroom, and we are going to be setting some pretty high goals for how many gator grins our students earn.  Green Tree is hoping to earn 10,000 golden gator grins by winter break!  While it's going to take some work, we all believe we can meet that goal!  One way to know how your students are doing is to ask them how many green or golden gator grins they earned that day and how they were earned (green gator grins are earned in the classroom). If you have any good instances to share that demonstrate how your student practices the skills at home too, please share these with the homeroom teacher as we love to hear about these outside of school too!

We look forward to the following activities this month:
