December Family Newsletter

Hello Gator families!

It is amazing that we are already rapidly approaching the midpoint of the school year. I have spent a great deal of time trying to meet all of the students and the important people in their lives - YOU! I want to thank you so much for visiting our school during the fun events we plan for our community. Our Family Fitness Night had a tremendous turnout! I may have lost in the scooter races, but I still consider the night a great success!

As discussed in our October updates, Green Tree is trying to earn 10,000 gator grins by winter break. It is a rather lofty goal, but our students are amazing as they continue to demonstrate the gator way both in and out of the classroom. Even more exciting, the students are impressing us daily with their application of the Second Step skills we have been learning throughout the year. Please continue to ask your students what skills they are learning about and how they are using them both in and out of school.

This week one of our families was featured on TMJ4! Parent Amy Gagnon shared with us the incredible story of her son, Philip, who was diagnosed with and beat cancer. Click here to hear about the journey of his family and celebrate the victory for one of our own!

Safety Reminders
As you are aware, the past few weeks have been a tough time for Wisconsin schools regarding safety.  I want to take a moment to remind everyone about a few of our safety procedures at Green Tree.
  • Please make sure to always check into the office to get a visitor tag if you will be in our school.
  • Parents and visitors are not allowed in the school or on the playground without a visitor pass.
  • We practice intruder drills several times each year and we will continue to update families when those drills have occurred.
  • All of our classroom doors will be locked when students are in the classrooms.
  • Visitor management will be updated at all schools.  This will include:
    • Implementation of Raptor Security System - visitor management software
    • Visitors will be required to provide a driver's license or government-issued ID for a visitor pass (Even regulars who walk students to class in the morning)
    • Designed to identify people who are on the sex offender list and track all visitors in a building
Our commitment and priority in the West Bend School District is to provide a safe and secure building/grounds at all of our schools without taking away from a learning environment that meets and exceeds the needs of all students. It will take all of us working together...
If you have any questions or concerns about the safety procedures of our school, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
