March Newsletter

Hello Gator Families!

For such a short month, February really made an impact on our school year. We want to thank you for your continued collaboration with Green Tree this school year. Whether it's related to the coronavirus, concerns about your child, feedback or questions, thank you for allowing us to partner with you! We are heading into the final months of the school year, and we look forward to continuing to maximize learning opportunities for our students.

This month, our schoolwide theme will continue focusing on ways to problem solve. In our morning announcements, we’ll be reminding students to use the Second Step Problem-Solving Steps:

· S: Say the problem
· T: Think of solutions
· E: Explore consequences
· P: Pick the best solution

As you can see, the first letter of each step spells the word ”step.” Remembering “step” helps students solve problems with each other in safe and respectful ways.

Second Step lessons specifically teach students to use each step and reinforce the message that solutions need to be safe and respectful. We hope the steps will be helpful for you and your child when there are problems at home.

Please tell your child’s teacher if you would like more suggestions about how to use the Problem-Solving Steps at home.

WI Forward
Students in grades 3 and 4 will be taking the Wisconsin Forward Exam during portions of the months of March and April. This assessment will be used to gauge how well students are mastering the Wisconsin State Standards in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics (Grades 3 and 4) and Science and Social Studies (Grade 4).  Parents of 3rd and 4th grade students will recieve more information soon.

Just a reminder to report any student absence by 9am to 335-5520. Grade level entry doors are closed and locked by 8:45, so any student arriving after that time should enter through the main doors.

Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Please remember to use caution when driving on city streets in front and in back of Green Tree when picking up or dropping off your students. Please yield for any pedestrian crossing and do not park in crosswalks. If necessary, you may report any violations observed on city streets to the local police department. Thank you for helping keep the safety of our students a priority!

Spring Break
If you have travel plans outside of the state over spring break, please check the CDC website to determine if a quarantine will be necessary upon your return to Wisconsin.

As always, thank you for your support and feedback.  If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out!  Have a great month!
