October Family Newsletter

Greetings Gator Families!

Before moving into the October happenings, I'd like to recap some of the fun we had in September!

Parent Information Night

Our Parent Information Night on September 9th was a really great time!  Thank you to everyone who joined us on this great evening, including Snappy!  A special thank you to the following groups for making this night a success:

  •  ABC Parent Group for arranging the Cousins Sub Truck to be present on-site so families could purchase dinner
  • Green Tree's Family and Culture Team for setting up the community resource information tables so you could view all the fun events and activities for your students
  • West Girls Dance Team for providing childcare during your informational sessions in the classrooms

Gator Grin Cards

Gator Grin cards were introduced to students the first full week of school.  Each card has a space for 15 stamps. When students fill up a card, they turn the card into their classroom teacher to be counted towards the schoolwide incentive. At the end of each week, a class or a grade level with the most cards turned in earns a celebration.

We set a goal to earn 300 cards as a school and met that goal last week! As a celebration, all students will be earning an extra recess up to 30 minutes.  Our next goal is to earn 600 for another fun, schoolwide celebration! A fun conversation at home would be to ask your student what he/she earned gator grins for throughout the day.  We catch your children at their best during these times and they love to share when they were respectful, responsible, safe, and ready to learn!  Overall, the students have had a great time celebrating and being celebrated this past month!

Updates

Parent Teacher Conferences

Wednesday, October 20th - 4pm to 6pm
Thursday, October 21st - 4pm to 5:30pm

Conferences are just around the corner. We will have two main nights for conferences listed above. We look forward to connecting with you during these times. Green Tree is committed to keeping your family well informed. Teachers have data along with observations about our child to share with you.  We also want to be able to address any concerns or questions that you might have at this point in the year.   Conferences will be a short fifteen minutes, so your feedback prior to your conference will ensure that the conference time is efficient and productive.  Please email your child's teacher with any questions or things you may want to discuss at the conference at your earliest convenience.

Conferences are an opportunity for you to speak with your child about their experience at Green Tree, and share their questions and concerns with their teacher. Below are ways to engage your child in preparation for the conference:

  • Ask your child how they feel about school, and jointly prepare a short list of questions or concerns that you can raise with the teacher

  • Ask your child what their strongest and weakest subjects are, and which ones they like most and least.

  • Ask your child how they feel about their relationships with their teacher and their peers. Do they feel supported and welcomed in the classroom? Is there anything they would like support with outside of schoolwork?

We look forward to seeing you during our conferences this year!

Reminders

Please see the reminders below to help keep our students safe and healthy this school year:

  • Classes line up to enter the building at 8:30am.  If your student is outside prior to this time, he/she may be unattended (and cold as the weather starts to change!)
  • No dogs are allowed on building grounds.  As cute as they are, we would hate for anything to happen to one of our students or your four-legged friend!
  • Bikes/Scooters/Skateboards/Other transportation should be walked on and off our building grounds.
  • Please do not park near fire hydrants, over the crosswalks, in or blocking neighbor's driveways when picking up or dropping off your student
  • All students must wear masks on busses
  • If your student isn't feeling well or is unable to attend school for the day, please call the attendance line as soon as possible at 262-335-5520 and leave a message with your child's name and reason for the absence.
We want to thank families for their partnership in keeping our students healthy by closely monitoring your child(ren) for any symptoms of illness and keeping them at home as needed. Keep your student(s) home if:
  • Your child has tested positive for COVID-19.

  • Your child, anyone in the home, or anyone considered having a prolonged

exposure* to the child has tested positive for COVID-19 or has taken a test
for COVID-19 and is waiting for results.
the symptoms are mild or sporadic. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days
after exposure to the virus.
  • Your child has been directed to quarantine.

Exposure to COVID-19 can happen in a variety of settings including schools.
Should your child develop any symptoms, please keep them home and call
the school for further direction. COVID-19 testing information is available on our website or on the Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department

* Prolonged exposure includes someone who has contact within three feet of a

positive COVID case for a significant period of time

(overnight guest, sharing utensils or drinking glasses, lab partners, significant other, etc.)
