November Newsletter

Hello Gator Families!

I am really excited about the goals we have set for Green Tree this year! Every fall we look at data to determine an area of focus for the year. This year the data we are using comes from a survey last spring, in which the staff identified that supporting our writers as they respond to reading is an area for growth. In order to achieve this goal, teachers will work together to better understand the writing continuum, analyze student writing, and identify specific teaching points as they confer with writers. We will provide information to families about how to support their writers in future newsletters, so stay tuned!

We had a lot of fun in October! Before we move into the November happenings, please take a look at some of the great things we did last month at Green Tree!

Imagination Grants Awarded

Erica Becker, School Counselor, and Sheela Pudwell, School-Family Liaison, were both awarded grants from the West Bend Public Schools Foundation Imagination Grants! Mrs. Pudwell wrote a grant to fund structured and unstructured recess/outdoor activities for all Green Tree students. Mrs. Becker wrote a grant to fund individual calm down kits for all students.

Dress Like A Book Character Day
Dress like your favorite story book character was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who dressed up and dressed their children up for school!

Updates

Second Step Unit 1
For the next few weeks, social-emotional learning will focus on helping students develop skills for learning. Students will learn how to pay attention and manage distractions so that they can be focused learners in the classroom. They will work to develop a growth-mindset and to apply goal-setting strategies to their social and academic lives.

Author Visit
Author Barbara Joosee will visit classrooms over Zoom on Novemeber 5 for her new book called The Fisherman, the Horse, and the Sea. Barbara Joosse's beautifully illustrated children’s book is based on a true story and recounts a dramatic rescue on Lake Michigan. Young readers will be introduced to Lester Smith and his family, who founded Port Washington’s long-running and beloved Smith Brothers Fish Shanty.

Kinder Night
Culver's will be holding a fundraiser for our Kindergarten team this year on November 17 from 4:30 - 7:30pm! A profit of all sales during these hours will benefit our Kindergarten events throughout the year, including our traditional Kindergarten tree that is planted at the end of the year.  We will be sending more information throughout the month.
