Happy February Gator Families!
It's hard to believe we are halfway through this school year! We are looking forward to the learning and fun we will have this month, but before we move forward, let's highlight the good times we had last month!
First Grade Parade
One of our science units in first grade is called Sound and Light. As a tie-in to the unit, first grader's read the book called Ada's Violin. The book is based on a true story about a group of students in Paraguay who made their own instruments from recycled materials found in the community landfill. The students researched and created their own instruments and held a schoolwide parade to show them off!
Second Step
In this next unit of Second Step, students will learn about empathy. They will learn how to use empathy to show kindness towards others and how being kind helps you make and maintain friendships!. The older students will begin to identify and demonstrate how perspective-taking skills influence empathy, their friendships and their own thoughts and actions.
As always, we will continue to send a link to view the Second Step lessons that will be taught in your child's classroom. If you prefer that your child does not participate in the whole group instruction for the unit or lesson, please communicate this to your child's classroom teacher prior to the lesson. Thank you for your support as we work to build a safe and supportive school community.
Valentine's Day
We will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Friday, February 11. Families can send individually pre-packaged store bought treats.

Reminders
Attendance
Just a reminder to report any student absence by 9am to 335-5520. Grade level entry doors are closed and locked by 8:45, so any student arriving after that time should enter through the main doors.
If deemed necessary, distance learning will be communicated to your family after reporting an illness to the school nurse. Please make sure to leave a detailed message if reporting an illness to our voicemail.
Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Breakfast doors open at 8:25. Students who arrive early are unattended (and cold!). Please make sure to observe the start times of breakfast before dropping off a student for breakfast.
Our parking lot is closed from 8:25 - 8:45, and again from 3:25 - 3:45pm. We are closed to ensure safety for our students and busses during this time. Please remember to use caution when driving on city streets in front and in back of Green Tree when picking up or dropping off your students. Yield for any pedestrian crossing and do not park in crosswalks. If necessary, you may report any violations observed on city streets to the local police department at 335-5000. Thank you for helping keep the safety of our students a priority!
No School for Students
Just a reminder that there will be no school for students on the following days:
- February 14th
I hope everyone has a safe and fun-filled February! As always, thank you for your continued support and feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or feedback.
Sincerely,
