May 2022 Newsletter

 Happy May Gator Families!

Can you believe we are in our last full month of the year!?  If there were ever a time to be kind, this is the year for it!  As we dive into our final full month of school, we continue focusing on kindness and revisiting friendship skills.  Our Second Step lessons will complete this month with the continued focus on the bullying unit.  As a reminder, the unit focuses on bullying prevention by teaching students and staff to recognize and respond effectively to bullying and supports helpful student and staff norms about bullying.   The unit teaches students to recognize, report and refuse bullying whether they witness it or are bullied themselves. As always, if you prefer that your child does not participate in the whole-group instruction for these units or lessons, please communicate that preference to your child’s classroom teacher prior to the lesson.  Thank you for your support as we work to build a safe and supportive school community.

Featuring... Mrs. Corazzi

By now, most of you are familiar with Green Tree's leading lady- our wonderful administrative assistant Mrs. Tina Corazzi.  Mrs. Corazzi is the winner of the West Bend School District Support Employee of the Year! Mrs. Corazzi has served the district for 14 years, and she truly is the glue that holds Green Tree together.  She goes above and beyond each and every day for our staff and students.  To celebrate her, we held a secret schoolwide assembly and suprised her with a visit from her family and a special song the students sang for her.  You can view some of this celebration on our facebook page!

Reminders
Meal Assistance
The following letter has been sent to families:

After two school years of free meals, including all breakfasts and lunches for all students funded by the United States Department of Agriculture, the daily meal charges will once again be required in the 2022-2023 school year. Free meals for all students has been a positive opportunity as we believe no student has been hindered in their learning by hunger during this time.

Unfortunately, the free meals over two school years has put school districts across the state and nation in a difficult predicament as free and reduced meal price applications have widely gone unused during this period. As a result, grant funding for special programs through the U.S. government will now be adversely impacted and school participation in Title 1 programs may be jeopardized.
Please complete a confidential application. The application can be completed in Skyward. Instructions are available on the WBSD website: west-bend.k12.wi.us under the Parents & Community pulldown. Or, attached to the letter sent hom last week is a printed copy of the free and reduced application. This confidential application takes just a few minutes to complete and it may help your child’s school receive grant funds. Additionally, all school fees can be waived for those qualifying as free meal status and lowered to half for those qualifying as reduced meal status. Again, this information is kept completely confidential. If your family qualifies for free or reduced-price meals, a nutrition department staff member will contact you. Please reach out with any questions. Thank you!

As always, please feel free to share any feedback, questions, concerns, or celebrations!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Potter
